Palethorpes Bakery is an award-winning and market-share leading ‘Chilled Savoury Pastry’ food manufacturer. We are currently looking for a Site Technical Manager to join our Technical Team on maternity cover 12-month Fixed Term contract. This is a fast-paced role, so experience working in a similar role prior is essential.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensure that the budgetary controls across the technical function are managed so business targets are met,
  • Ensure that a safe working environment exists for all employees,
  • Coach and develop direct reports to ensure the team is competent and capable of meeting current and future needs of the business,
  • To deputise for the Technical Controller as and when required,
  • To manage the technical function within the manufacturing unit ensuring all materials including finished products are safe and confirm to all relevant specification, legislation and customer requirements,
  • Maintain a documented Quality Management System that complies with all third-party standards, customer and Addo Group requirements,
  • Ensure all manufacturing procedures and processes are capable and appropriately controlled to assure production of finished products that are safe, legal and meet agreed quality standards,
  • Ensure that the appropriate technical governance and surveillance programmes are in place to ensure compliance with all customers, legal, safety, quality and integrity requirements,
  • Set stretching technical KPI targets and continuously review to ensure these are driving improved performance across the site,
  • Drive technical initiatives that will improve product quality, microbiological standards, complaints and conformance to QMS,
  • Interact with customers during site visits and audits, business reviews and other occasions,



What we are looking for:

•             Competent in use of customer portals

•             Ability to evaluate and interpret shelf-life results and other technical data

•             Expert in interpretation of customer codes of practise and delivery of BRC certification and / or equivalent certification standards

•             Project management

•             Demonstrates expertise in applying food legislation to manufacturing

•             Capable of identifying and solving root causes of complex problems

•             Managing and developing people

•             Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and manage a busy workflow

•             Demonstrate a flexible approach to role responsibilities



•             3 years working in chilled FMCG food business

•             Worked in a similar role

•             Experience of maintaining a QMS

•             Experience of maintaining an internal audit system

•             Working knowledge of BRC Global standards and other accreditations

•             Experience at technologist level of working with a retailer

•             Demonstrates understanding of product integrity, safety and brand protection

•             Food Science / Technology or other related biological science degree

•             Advanced Food Hygiene 4 or equivalent

•             Level 4 HACCP certified

•             Lead Assessor
